It’s four days into the new year, so most people have already shared their resolutions, goals, intentions, etc. You may have also seen a different spin on things this year with a single word. Lindsay first shared this concept last week and it really resonated with me. It simplifies something that can turn into a long list of to-dos.
My word won’t be a surprise to you. I actually started focusing on this last month, but it’s going to take more focus than a month. My word of the year is:
Balance sounds like such a simple concept (just one word!), but it’s something that is tricky for me. Realizing I need to slow down and breathe sometimes. And because I don’t follow directions well, I am going to break down this word a little more…
Balance starts with God.
Before anything else, I need to put (and keep) God in the center of everything. If I all do each day is spend time with Him, others things often fall into place. But I need to spend time each day with Him, preferably at the start of the day.
Food is fun, you know I love it! But I want to focus on a better balance here, eating the foods that truly fuel my active life and in the amount that is best for me.
Fitness is a big part of my life right now, as I’m training for my second Ironman and coaching other athletes. Finding the right balance to keep the fun in fitness, while improving sports performance (both for me and my athletes).
Life can quickly become a series of activities, but I want to enjoy each day and live on purpose. I want to avoid piling too many activities on my plate and be intentional about how I spend my time. Focusing on experiences with Kirk, growing in my career, and establishing strong friendships here in Colorado.
I feel these intensions really reflect my priorities for the year in all areas of my life. Now the work begins to live it out and find balance every day. It’s not been easy, but I know I’ve made progress over the past month – now it’s time to carry it over the long term.
