Cocktails + Cupcakes: Blended Together

As you probably remember, Friday night was the start of Blend. The event that I had been looking forward to for MONTHS was finally here!

These lovely ladies (Katie, Lindsay, & Janetha) did a marvelous job planning a flawless weekend packed with fun. And it kicked off with cocktail hour – I started with a Gin martini,  Laura enjoyed a Manhattan, and Lauren had a glass of wine. Yes, I remember whose drink is whose. 1

Other than eyeing the Beanitos, I really didn’t make it far enough to get to the snacks – I was too busy chatting away!

When we worked our way into dinner, I tried to sit down with a few people I knew and I few I hadn’t met yet. I promise I’m in this picture, although you can barely see me behind Kelly. :)

You probably recognize some other faces in this photo – Greg & Lauren, Kelly, Elizabeth, Laura, Calee, and Christine. At the end of the table, I sat next to a few of the sponsors from the weekend from Core Power & Fitmixer.

One of the things that made my life VERY easy, was that there were vegan (and gluten-free) options at every meal. You know I’m pretty good at finding vegan-friendly options when I’m out, but catered meals can be tricky sometimes. Not at Blend!!

A green salad & vegan/gluten-free pasta were pretty good (okay, I wanted more “stuff” in my pasta. But seriously, NOT complaining!!). The highlight?

CUPCAKES!!

The tower of cupcakes were all vegan & gluten free – every flavor available that evening. So good, especially as desserts are tough to find out of the house. I sampled three different flavors: Lavender Raspberry, Peanut Butter, and S’more.

Of the three, the Lavender Raspberry was my favorite by far.

Edited to add: The awesome bakery that created these cupcakes is Street Fare Bakery, a local Boulder business that benefits the Boulder Shelter.

At this point, most of us from the East Coast were starting to feel the time change, so we headed back to get some rest. We did have Bootcamp at 7AM the next morning, after all!

    I think I would like the peanut butter the best. Yumm.

    Last Friday, I did absolutely nothing. Well, I went to the gym after work and that was it. I wish I was at BLEND instead!

      That one was good – although I would have made the PB a little less dense in the inside. PB in anything is always great though!

      Good for you getting a workout in on a Friday night – that’s always hard for me. :)

      Hey Ashley!! It was great to get to know you too and the great thing about blogging is it makes it much easier to keep in touch, right?! :) I will always accept roasted fava beans – those things were amazing!!!!

    I wish I could try those gluten free cupcakes, although I am allergic to gluten I have yet to try any gluten free cupcakes! I am loving all of these reviews of the retreat. Great pictures!

      I bet you could make gluten-free cupcakes!! I wish I had a better understanding on gluten-free baking (and cooking in general), it’s on my list to learn. :)

    Love that you remembered what we had to drink!!
    The PB Pretzel cupcake was my favorite. I actually voted for the sweet potato/avocado and was dying to try it. I emailed the baker and they said that they don’t have a store- they sell at Boulder Farmers Markets (so I’ll definitely have to look out for them when I’m back in July).

      Another flavor I didn’t get a chance to try – dang! I love that they donate their proceeds, very cool that they are a non-profit bakery. Not something you hear every day!

    I am with you on wanting more STUFF in my sauce (and salad, now that I think about it)…and more sauce in general (and salad?). However, the fact that capers were there at all made me happy. :)

    The Raspberry Lavendar was the one I didn’t try! It was a tough call, but I actually think I liked The Junkyard/Carrot Cake one the best.

      I guess we just like our food packed with goodies – nothing wrong with that! It wasn’t bad, just nothing I was overjoyed about either.

      Choosing between the cupcakes was hard!!

    Ahh I keep seeing the lavender raspberry cupcakes listed as everyone’s fave, and I’m feeling rather upset that I didn’t get it. That said, the coffee cinnamon was delicious! On Friday night, I was creeping around trying to convince you to move to Denver, which I still think you should do ;)

      Oooh – coffee cinnamon does sound good and I didn’t get to try that one. I would be even more of an outdoor crazy person if I lived in Denver, sounds fun! :)

    First let me say that I love that one of your tags is beanitos! Ha! Love ‘em!

    1. I know I would like the smores/pb cupcakes, but that lavendar raspberry is intriguing. yum!
    2. Favorite pasta topping is sauteed spinach and mushrooms and garlic and some cracked pepper.
    3. Friday night was family fun night – took my girlies (9&8) to family zumba, then we made pizza’s, stayed in, cuddled with the kiddos and watched a movie.
