If you couldn’t guess from the title, one of my biggest pet peeves this time of year is the rush to Christmas. Don’t misunderstand — I LOVE Christmas!! It’s my favorite holiday of the year. After Thanksgiving, I’ll be a decorating fool with Christmas music in the background. But it annoys me how we seem to start celebrating Christmas earlier every year.

Some stores start putting out Christmas decorations before Halloween. I hear commercials for the Christmas music stations on satellite radio. Our neighbors put out decorations, including bright multi-colored lights in their tree in the front yard weeks ago.
S-L-O-W D-O-W-N!
Enjoy Today! November is already a great month with it’s own holidays: Veterans Day to celebrate our active & retired military, Thanksgiving in the US, and my birthday on the 29th. If you’ll just wait until after celebrate the first two, I’ll let you decorate before my birthday. ;)
So before you rush to hang those lights, put up the tree, and start singing Jingle Bells at the top of your lungs…stop…and remember to live in the moment. Christmas season will be here before you know it (just one more week now!).
I will start being a Christmas fanatic after dinner on November 22nd. Will you enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday with me?

Questions for you:
- When does the Christmas season start for you?
- Are you a Real Tree or Fake Tree person?
- Colored or White lights?

I will enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday with you! Literally. :)
One of the reasons I love Nordstrom’s so much is that they don’t start with Christmas until after Thanksgiving. I love the decorations and music… but seeing it up as early as Halloween is taking it too far.

I never noticed that about Nord.’s! They were my first department store- my momma used to buy all of our clothes there- so it’ll always have a special place in my heart :)

One of my biggest pet peeves is when Thanksgiving is overlooked because it is my absolute favorite holiday! Christmas season for me when I was little always started when I could eat my first chocolate from the Advent calendar and I think that has continued for me into my adulthood!

One year I put my Christmas stuff up THE DAY AFTER HALLOWEEN. Yes, I know I’m weird. I only did it one year, but it felt freeing to “buck the system” like that…ha :) Now it’s usually Thanksgiving weekend. But this year, I probably won’t decorate at all. We’ll see… I was really hoping to be in a new house before the holidays, but that’s only going to happen if we go under contract on a new house this weekend, which isn’t too probable. We shall see….

I totally agree! Christmas is my favorite, but you must wait to start it the weekend after Thanksgiving! I’m a fake tree person mostly because the fire hazards with real trees have always scared me. I like white lights on the tree, but colored lights on the house :)

I completely agree!!! I love Xmas and I don’t want to rush it or devalue it almost by starting to early. My mom has a buyouts Xmas village that goes in our window seat and tons of decorations. We always start the weekend after thanksgiving with decorations and music. Xmas music is my favorite!! I was obscessed with Xmas pandora stations last year.
I’m a real tree person/family all the way. I will never have a fake tree – mark my words. The boy and I even got. Little like 2.5 footer for our bedroom last year and decorations for blooming dales.
Ive always had colored lights but there is something so classic about just white. My mom always does colored with the white snow spray. And a few blinking/sparkly lights.

I am so with you on this. I was just flat out annoyed to see all the Christmas decorations going up in the stores right after Halloween. Um, what about Thanksgiving? I typically put up my (fake) tree a week after Thanksgiving. Or when I find the free time and stop being lazy about it ;-)

I cannot agree more. A jewelry store on Old Milton and Haynes Bridge put up Christmas lights a MONTH ago. Not ok.
I absolutely love Thanksgiving, so no worries, I won’t be one of those folks rushing through it! I’m going to stop and savor the stuffing. Lots and lots of stuffing. Although one of my neighbors put up insane Christmas decorations (their yard is practically solid lights) right after Halloween…and while I want to hate it, it’s also kinda awesome. And bright. Really bright.

FINALLY! YES YES YES!!! All other countries think we are crazy because we rush holidays. I agree, we need to tame the crazy. haha

SO true! I swear there were Christmas decorations out in the stores weeks before Halloween… And no joke, there’s already Valentine’s Day stuff out in some of the stores, eek! I get excited for Christmas after Halloween but don’t start decorating until after Thanksgiving and the tree doesn’t appear until a week or two before Christmas :)

I live in a town known for it’s Christmas decorations. Tour’s started last night. I enjoy eating turkey and watching the Macy’s parade. We have a 12′ tree up already … two more to go. I start Christmas shopping in July.
AMEN! Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, and I love this time of year. I get more excited about November than I do about Christmas…and I think part of the reason is because the Christmas season can get so full, and stressed, and busy, while those of us who love Thanksgiving see this time as a time of slowing down, enjoying family, and being grateful for all of the gifts we’ve been given. Christmas should be like that, too, don’t get me wrong, but the rush to get to it makes it so much more frenetic.

It’s funny – I see a lot of people with the same complaint as you. But, it doesn’t bother me. I like that the stores and neighborhoods are decorated. I think that the entire months of November and December are the holidays and it’s fun to enjoy the season.
That being said, I don’t start shopping and planning this early, I just enjoy the decorations.
Now, take my opinion with a grain of salt, I don’t celebrate Christmas and Hanukkah is super early this year, so it’s sort of a reminder for me to get my act together.

I’m with you 100%. I love Thanksgiving just as much (if not more?) than the actual Christmas holiday… and I celebrate it! I don’t like the commercialism of the holidays at all… I LOVE decorating, celebrating, even gift giving. AFTER Thanksgiving…
