After a week of forced awesome laziness to rest and recover from the New Orleans Marathon, I was SOOOOO excited to get back to training! After a little scare on Saturday with my foot hurting as soon as I put on my running shoes, I switched shoes on Sunday and went for a short run!! I also hopped on the bike for a very short bike while Kirk was finishing his bike workout.
Isn’t it funny how you can want to be lazy, until you HAVE to be lazy? =)
So this week, I’m really excited about getting back into a workout routine AND adding strength training back into my schedule! I backed off strength training after my bout of overtraining before the 50K, then I was tapering, then I was recovering, then I was tapering again, and last week I recovered. All of a sudden, 7 weeks without strength training had come and gone.
Well no more!! Before the marathon, I signed up for Tina’s Bootcamp!
Now you know I don’t do the gym right now, so I tweaked Tina’s AWESOME workout to incorporate the TRX instead of weights and the bosu ball. I’d actually love a bosu ball – but those things are apparently expensive! I don’t think I would use it enough to justify that expense.
So what does this week’s workout schedule look like?
- Monday – Bootcamp Strength + Yoga
- Tuesday – Bike (0:30)
- Wednesday – Run (6 miles) + Bootcamp Strength
- Thursday -Bike (0:30) + Yoga
- Friday – Bootcamp Strength + Bike (1:00)
- Saturday – Running the Rocks 10K
- Sunday – Publix Half Marathon
If you’ll be at the Publix Half Marathon this weekend, look for me in my first ever running “costume” – I ordered this awesome rainbow-color tutu for the occasion! And I’ll be wearing more clothing than this model, don’t you worry. :)
Questions for you:
- Have you ever run a race in a costume?
- Any other (easy) suggestions to add to the tutu “costume”? I rarely run races for fun and want to take full advantage!!
- How is your training going? I really want to hear about it!!

If you’re an Amazon Prime member, you can get something fun before the race! :) I got the tutu idea while running the marathon, there were so many costumes at that race!
Are you punking us about that tutu? LOL!! I cannot see you in that, so you better post pics!! Good luck this week back to training!
Totally not – don’t worry, there will be plenty of photos taken!! =) I don’t think a tutu is a stretch for me, since I grew up wearing them, but that does feel 100 years away.
I love that you’re dressing up!! Can’t wait to cheer for you all. Do you feel recovered from the marathon?

I hope I’ll be easy to spot – I’ll look for you!
With that rainbow tutu you could do a belated St. Patty’s day costume with a pot of gold and leprechaun. Don’t know how you would go about doing it, but its an idea.
I almost ran in an elf costume for a holiday themed 5k last year, but chickened out at the last moment. Once I got to the race an saw everyone else in costumes I regretted my decision. Oh well, there is always next time.
Hmm…interesting thought there – I need to think more on how that would work. Great idea!!
Next race – you HAVE to dress up. Then we’ll both be part of the “cool club”. ;)
I think I can do that!

Oh I love it – who’s wearing the box on their head?! :)
you should definitely add a tiara and/or a sash to your costume!! that tutu is really cute! i’ve never run in costume, though i’m sure it’d be a blast!!

Ooh tiara and a sash – party city? I need to figure out where to find something like that!! :)
Hey Girl!
I have a little experience with the tu tu situation. A group of gals and myself run a race around here every year, called the Rainbow Run and we have worn various tutus ever since our first go at it four years ago. We have used red tutus with rainbow shorts and all of us wore various colors of the rainbow tanks. The next year we threw in bright neon tights in addition to our red tutus and tanks. The following year we wore white tutus (in honor of my upcoming wedding). I wore a veil, black lace arm sleeves, and a tank that had sequins spelling out bride to be.
By far my favorite run of the year and I think it’s because we are always trying to add something to our costumes.
I am currently training for a half in May…week 8 with a recover week long run this weekend. It is going really well and I have found some great supplements that have truly made my long runs fantastic. My nine mile run on Sunday brought with it my love of the sport, as I remember it long ago…and to think I thought I would never have that passion again!
Ooh neon tights – I wish it was going to be cool enough that tights would be comfy. Maybe the forecast will change, love that idea!!
Glad to hear you are getting back into long distance running, once you get back into it, I think there’s no better feeling than a really long workout. Especially how you feel after! :)
I’ve been wanting to buy a TRX for months now – I’ve gotten ‘stuck’ in my normal exercise routine and I’ve heard such amazing things about it!
