This is normally the day I post WIAW, a great weekly tradition. Unfortunately, I seem to be getting worse at photographing my meals recently and after forgetting again at dinner on Tuesday night (a tasty Whole Foods Hot Bar concoction), I was out of time. So instead, let’s keep on the race theme and talk about post-race brunch!!
After Sunday’s race, it was time for some fun and socializing with some great friends – both “old” and new! Lindsay’s hubby, Travis, captured some great pics of the afternoon. Thank you, Travis!!
First, we spent some time chatting in the sun in Centennial Park– crazy, because I remember being freezing in the park after last year’s race. The weather was already in the 60s this year – very comfortable for spending some time outdoors.

We all cleaned up – Kirk and I headed to Laura’s place for a shower – then regrouped at Stone Soup Kitchen for Brunch.
Stone Soup Kitchen
I came across Stone Soup Kitchen when we were brainstorming restaurant ideas a few weeks ago. A cute little eatery in Grant Park with a covered outdoor patio that was perfect for the unseasonably warm March day. We arrived just as Travis & Lindsay grabbed a table – great timing, right?

I had forgotten how good the menu looked, so I got excited all over again about all the vegan choices on the menu. Selections were clearly marked (always a plus!) and they also had marked Gluten Free options. There were so many things to choose from!
Despite all the choices, I quickly settled on the Vegos Rancheros.
The huge pile of tofu was delicious – it was slightly crispy and very much the texture of hard scrambled eggs (from my memory). And look how big those slices of avocados are – so many restaurants are skimpy on the avocado. I topped this with salsa and hot sauce and gobbled it up.
Conversation at lunch was great – it seemed like I had known the other girls forever. And I was glad to hear that Travis (who is still in IT) had similar website frustrations as me. =)
The only downside to brunch was that drinks are not served until 12:30PM on Sundays and we were almost done eating at that point. I hope that law is the next one to go in Georgia. ;) I absolutely recommend Stone Soup Kitchen if you’re in the Grant Park area – and it’s worth a trip even if you’re not planning on being in the area!

Question for you:
-
What is your favorite brunch drink? Mine is Bloody Mary’s, spicy and peppery with pickled okra and olives.

I would have liked a bloody mary, although I probably would have fallen asleep at the table. I was so exhausted! I went home and slept for three hours!

You deserved a good nap! I wish I was more of a nap person, my brain doesn’t turn off very well during the day. :)
Even I, a non-drinker, would have loved a little something after that race! Great restaurant pick, Heather!

I didn’t realize you were a non-drinker, you probably thought we were all so silly for complaining about the no-drink policy. :)
That was a great brunch! I love new restaurant “finds.” My scrambles was great, but I’m definitely trying your huevos rancheros next time.

Me too!! Next time we go, we are going during drinking hours, so we can try those sake bloody mary’s!
Mine is coffee! Freshly brewed, mmmmm.
Thanks for sharing!

I sometimes wish I was a coffee person, it seems like a fun ritual. :)
I’d just like some of that pickled okra…you can hold the Bloody Mary. [I'll drink that too, though. ;)]
Stone Soup Kitchen sounds great…I’m hoping to get to ATL this summer, and I’ll have to keep that on my list!

There aren’t many foods that I don’t enjoy pickled. :) So many great restaurants to pick from in Atlanta, your list has got to be long!
92% is pretty impressive. As for brunch drinks, I too am a bloody mary fan, and I like them with horseradish and olives. Yum!
Yes – it’s hard to get over 90% on urbanspoon with so many opinions. Oh yes, forgot the horseradish! That is important in a good, spicy bloody mary!
LOL! I remember that law! same thing happend to use when racing Augusta 70.3 Not FUN! haha.
That’s the worst! I think that’s why we almost always have a cooler of drinks packed for after big races – we know it. :)
I love when restaurants don’t skimp on the avocado too. The more avocado the better in my book. :)
I hate that 12:30 serving time on Sundays too. Chris and I had forgotten about that when we went to celebrate Valentine’s last year with Sunday brunch. We ended up having cocktails for dessert!

I wonder if we really will get to vote on it at some point, with all the other changes recently. It would be great!

It’s getting closer and closer – I think it’s going to be a weekend for the history books. :)
Thanks so much for the great review! We love feedback and being a runner myself (I did the Publix Half that same day) I try to keep many healthy options on the menu. Please say “hi” next time you are in!
