Today’s the big day – the day I find out what it feels like to run 50K (about 31 miles). We flew to Sacramento on Thursday night, so that I had time to acclimate to the time zone change before this morning’s race. So as of 8:30AM PST, I will be running the 34th Annual Jed Smith Ultra Classic.
I’ve had a few people ask about my time goals for the race and the answer is simple – I have none! My goal is to run a nice steady pace, slower than my marathon pace, and finish the race happy. I also want to have enough energy left to shower and head down to wine country for a little afternoon wine tasting.
That’s it – no time goals at all. Really. Not even any secret ones I’m just keeping to myself. I promise!

Any awesome pins to share from the past week?
What are your plans for the Super Bowl tomorrow? I’m going to be just getting back to Atlanta, so I don’t expect to be doing much. =)

Google + confuses me! I’m on it, and I control my work account too but I don’t quite get it yet.
Good luck!!

I’m still figuring it out too, but I figure joining is the best way to “get it”, right?! :)
You’re going to have to give us a lesson on Google+. :)
Hope you had a great run today!!! I’m so excited to hear about it.

As soon as I figure it out more, I can definitely do that! Run was great, full recap coming Monday!
Woot Woot!!!!! I’m cheering you on from ATL!!!! Run Heather RUN!!! But slow and steady, right? LOL!!! Hope you have enough energy for some wine tasting later. :-) Will be looking for an update soon!
You know I always have time for wine tasting!! We discovered a new winery that you’ll have to taste – yes, we joined another wine club! =)
Hooray for finishing strong at the 50k. Love the pin of the race bib book. Looks like a great way to keep the bib as well as a few pics from race weekends.
Thanks for being such an awesome supporter!! We need to make one of those race bib books – maybe start with our “big” races and then do a more complete book going forward?
That pimento cheese fondue is amazing! I already got the recipe and cannot wait to make it!
I’m excited to try it myself – although I don’t want to make when I’m the only one home, because I’m sure I’d eat the whole thing! ;)
I hope you had a good time at the Jed Smith 50k this weekend! You should have introduced yourself. You might have been (or not) surprised to learn one of the two co-race directors is a long-time vegan!
It was great – a perfect race for a first time 50K participant, very well organized and great scenery. Sorry I missed you, we rushed out to make it to wine tastings, before everything closed. Awesome to hear that one of the race directors is vegan, it’s more common than many people realize!
My race recap is posted today, in case you’re interested! :)
