I’m kind of sad that this is the fourth and final recipe from last week’s Beer Dinner. But it’s good news for you, because the final recipe is dessert!!

Bourbon Bananas Foster Crepe

by Kirk Blackmon

Keywords: saute dessert vegan vegetarian bourbon banana French

Ingredients (2 servings)

  • 2 servings of Vegan Crepes (Allrecipes.com)
  • 2 tablespoons non-dairy butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 bananas, sliced
  • 1/2 cup bourbon
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar

Instructions

Prepare crepes according to instructions.

Melt butter in saute pan over medium-high heat.

Once melted, add brown sugar and stir until combined.

Add sliced bananas and saute until golden brown and thoroughly coated with sugar mixture.

Pour mixture into crepes

Flambe Instructions

Caution: the next step is dangerous. Please do not attempt if you have not flambéd food before – see Non-Flambe Instructions below

With stove off, add bourbon to pan and ignite with stick lighter. Once flame goes out, pour sauce over bananas.

Fold edges of crepe to the center and dust with powdered sugar.

Non-Flambe Instructions (personally untested, but have heard this is a reasonable alternative)

Add 1/4 cup bourbon to a hot pan (carefully – it will ignite if it touches flame) and allow to burn off the alcohol. Pour sauce over bananas

Fold edges of crepe to the center and dust with powdered sugar.

THAT IS ALL!!! Good night, don’t forget to tip your waiter.

Today’s Questions:

- Have you made a flambé dish at home before?

- What is your favorite dessert (or type of dessert) for a special occasion?

- Have you ever enjoyed a fancy meal for no reason at all – like celebrating that it was Tuesday? =)

The only thing I have ever flambe-d is bananans foster. People don’t set their food on fire enough these days! I love adding a little coconut milk to the bananas for a creamy sauce.

We need to start a food+fire movement, it’s so fun (once you know what you’re doing)! :)

You tempt me so! I would be that person who burns the house down though, so I’m glad you gave a fire-alternative! :D

This looks delish…although I’ve never made something like this before! Thanks for the non-flaming version. Maybe I should go pick up some bourbon?! ;)
